The series of GaAs photodiode-amplifier hybrids with active area sizes of 100 µm is a compact integration of a high-speed GaAs photodetector with a wide dynamic range transimpedance amplifier (TIA) in a hermetically sealed TO-package for high-speed signal amplification, providing low capacitance, low dark current and high responsivity from 650 to 860 nm – ideal for high-bit-rate receivers used in LAN, MAN and other high-speed communication systems. This series is also offered with FC, SC, ST and SMA receptacles.
The series including 4- and 12-element arrays of 70 µm diameter GaAs PIN photodetectors on a wraparound ceramic submount is designed for high-speed (up to 2.5 Gbps) fiber receiver and monitoring applications. Anti-reflective (AR) coated and sensitive to telecommunication wavelengths, these arrays are perfect receivers for single mode (SM) or multi mode (MM) fiber ribbons with a 250 µm pitch.
Our broad portfolio of thermopile detectors offers leading-edge, non-contact temperature measurement for applications in smart home, smart appliances, intelligent thermostats and HVAC control systems, as well as thermometry. High-sensitivity thermopile detectors are available in TO-46, TO-5 and compact SMD housings, with or without an integrated focusing lens for non-contact measurement, and equipped with an internal thermistor as a reference for temperature compensation.
Digital output thermopile sensors include specially designed electronic circuitry to provide the algorithm and calibration for temperature measurement and digital functionality, without any need for external low-noise amplification. This series is available in traditional TO metal housings as well as in SMD, and it enables direct connection to your microprocessor and streamlines integration. Intelligent, multifunction thermopile sensors provide integrated features that enable non-contact temperature measurement, as well as motion detection and presence monitoring across short to medium ranges – all from a single and compact unit.
Thermopile sensor modules incorporate a variety of thermopile sensors and detectors mounted on small PCBs with connectors for easy systems integration. Based on thermopile sensors, linear and 2D IR imager arrays are provided as application-ready modules featuring a sensing chip, robust metal housing with focusing lens, a PCB with microprocessor for calibration and bus interface and a quick connector for streamlined plug-and-play integration.
With pyroelectric infrared detectors available in single-, dual- and quad-element configurations, this wide range of different-sized surface pyroelectric sensors for motion detection directly translates to enhanced performance and sensitivity in applications like smart home/city, IoT, burglary detection or security systems. Digital pyroelectric IR detectors featuring internal integrated circuitry to convert the element signals into a 14-bit digital output are available, including low-power variants for battery-operated motion detection.
AMS Technologies carries two different series of photoconductive and photovoltaic HgCdTe-based detectors, both available either uncooled or thermoelectrically cooled by two-, three- or even four-stage TEC structures. Optically immersed variants allow to further improve the parameters of the devices. The series of HgCdTe infrared detector arrays comprises HgCdTe detectors whose active surface consists of more than two elements, including quadrant geometry detectors, ideally suited for defense and security applications as well as XY or differential measurements.
The series of photovoltaic detectors (photodiodes) based on InAs or InAsSb materials for MWIR wavelength ranges from 2 to 5.5 µm can operate either at flicker-free zero bias or with reverse voltage and features uncooled detectors as well as thermoelectrically cooled devices. Variants are optically immersed in order to further improve the parameters of the devices.
MWIR to LWIR InAs/InAsSb type II superlattice photoconductive and photovoltaic IR detectors are also available, featuring wavelength ranges up to 10.5 µm. These detectors achieve excellent parameters without cryogenic cooling (LN2), operating at room temperature or thermoelectrically cooled by 2- or 3-stage TECs. They do not contain mercury or cadmium and are compliant with the RoHS directive.
Complementing the portfolio of photoconductive and photovoltaic HgCdTe and InAs/InAsSb detectors, our offering encompasses a broad range of selected line or configurable line infrared (IR) detection modules that integrate the IR photodetector with preamplifier and, depending on the module series, also signal processing electronics, optics, heat dissipation systems and other components in a common package.

The series of PINFET optical receiver modules integrates a PIN photodiode and a discrete, high-performance transimpedance amplifier (TIA), also available with adjustable gain and providing an excellent solution for optical receiver systems that require both high sensitivity and wide dynamic range. Light is coupled into the detector stage through a multi mode (MM) optical fiber pigtail. An additional series of fiber optic receivers contains an ultra-high-speed photodiode coupled to a TIA, available with no fiber connector as well as ST and SMA connector versions.
AMS Technologies’ portfolio also includes balanced photodetectors, used to increase system signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for OCT and sensor systems. Our balanced photodetector module specially designed for use in research and development is fully enclosed in a compact, sturdy aluminium box with two optical input ports, a balanced RF output port, two 1 MHz monitor ports and a power supply port – ideal for integration into laboratory or commercial OCT, fiber sensors and high-performance optical measurement systems. An OEM version is also available, designed for OEM applications and engineered for low cost and small size as well as high performance. The polarization diverse balanced photodetector module adds polarization sensitivity to the balanced photodetector circuitry.
