AMS Technologies' optical fiber vacuum pressure feedthroughs are designed for ultra-high vacuum (UHV) applications. They feature extremely low outgassing rates and helium leak rates.

Flange fiber vacuum pressure feedthroughs with bolt style, ConFlat or ISO Klein flange are designed to allow step-index multi mode optical fibers to penetrate a pressure vessel without compromising the integrity of the vacuum – ideal for laser power delivery or optical sensing applications that must be conducted in a pressure or vacuum chamber. These devices can be configured as stand-alone feedthroughs or integrated into cable assemblies as needed.

Penetrating and receptacle-style fiber optic vacuum pressure feedthroughs provide a simple way to use single mode (SM)multi mode (MM) or polarization maintaining (PM) optical fibers with vacuum and pressure chambers. Penetrating feedthrough fiber versions have one or four fibers directly installed, passing through a soft sealant material which is compressed by the compressive endcap and internal squeezer. The receptacle style version contains a short fiber stub, which is sealed using a vacuum rated glue. An O-ring is used between the chamber wall and the flange to seal the system. Adapters for various standard connectors are available.

Fiber vacuum feedthroughs are used to route fiber optic signals from vacuum, high vacuum or even ultra high vacuum (UHV) to the normal atmosphere. Hermetical sealing is key for reliable optical coupling into vacuum systems, often verified by low helium leak rates.

Most vacuum feedthroughs are made from stainless steel to provide sturdy and rigid structures that are resistant to corrosion and show low or no outgassing rates that would compromise the vacuum. For the same reason, epoxy on the vacuum side of the feedthrough is avoided as much as possible to have minimal contamination and gas load on the vacuum system – and vacuum-compatible patch cables should be used to connect to the feedthrough on the vacuum side.

Penetrating feedthroughs have the fiber directly installed, sealed by either mechanical compression of gaskets or with the help of chemical sealants. Flange or receptacle style feedthroughs carry a short fiber stub connected to fiber optic connectors at either end. On the optical (fiber) side, low insertion loss and the ability to handle high optical power are important features for a fiber vacuum pressure feedthrough.
