SMA fiber optic cable connectors are the longest existing optical connector standard, feature threaded plug and socket. The SMA standard is used not only for optical fibers but has originally been invented for coaxial cable. This connector’s fiber holder is incorporated with a 3.175 mm ferrule.

The SMA connector is not torsion-proof, so the fibers of two connectors cannot be brought into physical contact without the risk of damage. Therefore, a contact between the ferrules is established without the fiber end surfaces touching each other. While the connector is preferably used for multi mode fibers it can also connect single mode fibers. Due to its robust design, it is used in metrology, medical and military applications.

Optoplast’s SMA 905 crimp type connector kits are suitable for application with single mode, multi mode standard and multi mode large core optical fibers. Crimp is available for 1.6, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 mm fiber optic cable, while SMA connector kits for Ø 900 μm buffer don’t provide a crimp option. Customers can choose between round (standard) and hexagonal nut versions.

Optoplast SMA 905 connector kits are supplied as standard in two configurations – multi mode (black boot) and single mode PC (yellow boot). For each of the different cable diameters, users can choose from a different selection of the additional boot colours white, blue, red, beige and green (see datasheet). Other boot colours are available on request. 90° boots (black) are available in 2 and 3 mm as accessory, suitable for 1.6 to 3 mm fiber optic cable.

Each separate component of the FC crimp type connector kits is packed as standard in transparent plastic bags of 500 pieces. All components of the connector are RoHS and REACH compliant.
