Fiber optic assemblies range from a single fiber cable terminated with industry standard connectors at both ends and sheathed with a flexible material, to a multi-fiber bundle consisting of multiple inputs and/or outputs, each with different cross-sections and geometries, each requiring a custom machined endfitting and a durable outer sheath to protect the assembly from damage.
Fiber bundles and assemblies are designed and manufactured using a broad variety of optical fiber types, ranging from pure silica (core and clad) or silica core / plastic clad fibers to borosilicate glass fiber, plastic optical fiber, fluoride fiber, chalcogenide fiber, erbium-doped fiber or polarization maintaining fiber.
Numerical apertures of the optical fibers in a bundle or assembly can vary, and the fibers can be equipped with the widest range of custom and standard endfittings, connectors and outer jackets to tailor a product to the customer’s technical and economic requirements. For high temperature applications, some fiber types in a bundle or assembly can be metal (aluminium or gold) coated on request.
Additionally, fibers can be equipped on demand with anti-reflective technology like the patented RARe Motheye technology that enhances fiber transmission performance and significantly increases the damage threshold over a large wavelength range.
