Air to air thermal management assemblies like our range of cabinet coolers, dehumidifiers and miniature air conditioners (mAC-KITs) are the ideal solution to cool and remove heat from cabinets, control panels, and battery packs or to cool reagents and drugs in analytical and life science applications consoles.
Utilizing either Peltier, heat pipe or compressor technology, our cabinet coolers are especially suitable for harsh environments like food industry or traffic engineering. Internal air circulation and ambient external air flow are separated by a hermetical seal. Most of our cabinet coolers are also protected against water and rated according to the IP67 (NEMA4X) standard.
Common mounting locations for flush mount cabinet coolers are side, front or back as high as possible on the cabinet and with no intrusion into the enclosure. Drop in air-to-air heat exchangers extend into the panel from the side, top, front or back, but minimise the external footprint.
Our miniature air conditioners (mAC-KITs ) work on the principle of forced air and are well suited where quick cool down is needed or reagents in sealed vials must be kept cool. They may also be used for dehumidification purposes. Both thermoelectric and miniature compressor based air conditioners allow for precise temperature control. Low voltage supply, typically 24 VDC, makes it easy to integrate them in OEM equipment.
Thermoelectric Based Cabinet Coolers
Thermoelectric cabinet coolers are the ideal solution when heat needs to be removed from small electronic cabinets, or small compartments need to be cooled below ambient. Nominal cooling capacities range from 30 W to 280 W when internal temperature equals external temperature (Tin = Tamb). When cooling below ambient is required, the cooling capacity depends on the size of the compartment and its insulation. Temperatures of as low as 25 K below ambient temperatures can be achieved.
Custom thermoelectric cabinet coolers with cooling capacities of up to 1 to 2 kW are especially suitable for harsh environments, for example for battery cooling in new applications for transportation. Unlike compressor based systems Peltier modules have no moving parts, are maintenance free and withstand high temperatures and mechanical shocks. When properly dimensioned and used in areas with low to moderate number of hot days power consumption may be acceptable, i.e. reaching efficiencies COP >1.
Heat Pipe Based Cabinet Coolers
Based on heat pipe technology, these very compact and lightweight air to air heat exchangers remove waste heat from sealed electrical panels and enclosures. Intruding and flush-mount versions are available with ratings from 16 W/°C up to 200 W/°C. The coolers’ design dissipates heat from sensitive electronic components without exposing them to the harsh and dirty environment outside the cabinet. Common mounting locations for these units are side, front or back as high as possible on the enclosure.
Compressor Based Cabinet Coolers
Our DEK Compressor Based Cabinet Coolers can be mounted on the roof of the cabinet. Available for different operating voltages, the compressor cooling units provide nominal cooling capacities of 410 W or 820 W respectively. Among the main product features are a quick assembly procedure, high reliability and minimized maintenance efforts.
Humidity inside the cabinet can damage sensitive electronics or optics, so reliable dehumdification of the air in a cabinet is critical. The PSE 30 dehumidifier series, which uses maintenance-free Peltier technology, is suitable for collecting and draining condensate from the housing. When warm and humid air flow in the cabinet passes over the PSE unit, it condenses on its cold surface. The condensate is collected and reliably pumped to the outside by a diaphragm pump. The unit is suitable for mounting partially inside or completely inside the cabinet.
Our compressor based miniature air conditioners are tailored to customers specifications. Properly dimensioned and inherently fault tolerant compressor circuit designs and specific controllers guarantee precise cooling in a wide range of ambient and operating conditions. Requirements met are for example in liquid samples handling to maintain a temperature of 4°C +/-0,1K, remove condensate of up to 75 ml/h and prevent freezing.
Our compressors are speed/stroke controlled over a wide capacity range, operate from low voltage inverters and utilize either R134a or environmentally friendly isobutane R600a.
