Air to Air Thermal Management Assemblies available from Stock
Air-to-air thermal management assemblies like our range of cabinet coolers and dehumidifiers available from stock are the ideal solution to remove heat from cabinets, control panels, consoles and battery packs or to cool reagents and drugs in analytical and life science applications.
Our cabinet coolers keep internal air circulation and ambient external air flow separated by a hermetical seal and thus are especially suitable for harsh environments like food industry or traffic engineering. Most of our cabinet coolers are also protected against water and rated according to the IP67 (NEMA4X) standard.
We provide thermoelectric or Peltier based cabinet coolers available from stock, with nominal cooling capacities from 30 W to 280 W when internal temperature equals external temperature (Tin = Tamb). Heat sinks on the hot as well as the cold side are each equipped with one fan or two fans to ensure good air movement and heat transport.
We provide also specialized devices for dehumidification of cabinets available from stock, utilizing thermoelectric Peltier elements to condensate humidity from the air inside the enclosure and transporting the resulting fluid to the outside.
Beyond the cabinet cooling devices available from stock, AMS Technologies supplies additional cabinet cooler models out of a broad range of series utilizing either Peltier, heat pipe or compressor technology, as well as customized miniature air conditioners (mAC-KITs). With this portfolio, we are able to provide solutions for most air-to-air heat removal applications.
Our standard compressor-based cabinet coolers are available with cooling capabilities ranging from 410 to 3850 W, covering the majority of applications for cooling electric enclosures in an extremely compact package. We carry heat-pipe-based coolers in drop-in as well as flush-mount versions, covering cooling capacities from 254 W to 4000 W.
Two different series of thermoelectric or Peltier based cabinet coolers are available, providing cooling capacities from 40 W to 210 W or 30 W to 280 W respectively. Our series of thermoelectric power generators is a quite unusual application of air-to-air thermal management, as these devices produce electrical power based on a heat difference between the inside of a closed volume and its surrounding.
You can’t find a standard product covering your project’s cooling needs? AMS Technologies has many years of experience in the development and design of customized air to air thermal management solutions that can be specified according to the requirements of your application. Contact us to arrange an appointment.
One example for a customized solution are our compressor-based miniature air conditioners (mAC-KITs) that work on the principle of forced air and are tailored to the customer’s specifications. Low voltage supply, typically 24 VDC, enables easy integration of our mAC-KITs into OEM equipment. These customized solutions are well suited where quick cool down is needed or reagents in sealed vials must be kept cool. They may also be used for dehumidification purposes.
Properly dimensioned and inherently fault tolerant compressor circuit designs and specific controllers guarantee precise temperature control in a wide range of ambient and operating conditions. Requirements met are for example in liquid samples handling to maintain a temperature of +4 °C ±0,1 K, remove condensate of up to 75 ml/h and prevent freezing. Our compressors are speed/stroke controlled over a wide capacity range, operate from low voltage inverters and utilize either R134a or environmentally friendly isobutane R600a.
For applications where hermetically separating the cabinet’s inside from the outside environment is not critical, our filter fans can be used as an effective and low-cost solution for removing dissipated heat out of cabinets and enclosures.
If air to air cooling is simply not powerful enough to remove high heat loads from your system, you should consider our exceptional portfolio of ready-to-use liquid to air thermal management assemblies like our range of recirculating chillers, ambient cooling systems and other liquid to air thermal management solutions, using water or water-glycol mixtures for heat transfer. For even higher thermal loads like large power electronics or energy storage systems, our liquid to liquid thermal management assemblies provide ideal cooling solutions.
You are looking for components rather than complete thermal management solutions? AMS Technologies carries a broad range of air cooling components including heat sinks as well as fans for forced air cooling. Thermoelectric components like thermoelectric (Peltier) modules or TEC temperature controllers are also available from AMS Technologies, and we provide extensive development services of TEC-based solutions for a variety of applications.
Air to air thermal management assemblies are designed to transport heat from one environment to another environment, with both environments hermetically sealed from one another. Typical devices within this category are cabinet coolers or dehumidifiers.
Thermoelectric Based Cabinet Coolers
Thermoelectric cabinet coolers are the ideal solution when heat needs to be removed from small electronic cabinets, or small compartments need to be cooled below ambient. In most cases, nominal cooling capacities are defined for a condition where internal temperature equals external temperature (Tin = Tamb). When cooling below ambient is required, the cooling capacity depends on the size of the compartment and its insulation. Temperatures of as low as 25 K below ambient temperatures can be achieved.
Custom thermoelectric cabinet coolers with higher cooling capacities in the single digit kW range are especially suitable for harsh environments, for example for battery cooling in new applications for transportation. Unlike compressor-based systems, Peltier modules have no moving parts, are maintenance free and withstand high temperatures and mechanical shocks. When properly dimensioned and used in areas with low to moderate number of hot days, power consumption may be acceptable, i.e. reaching efficiencies COP >1.
Heat Pipe Based Cabinet Coolers
These very compact and lightweight air to air heat exchangers use heat pipe technology (evaporating and condensing fluid in a heat pipe) to remove waste heat from sealed electrical panels and enclosures. The coolers’ design dissipates heat from sensitive electronic components without exposing them to the harsh and dirty environment outside the cabinet. Common mounting locations for these units are side, front or back as high as possible on the enclosure.
Compressor Based Cabinet Coolers
Compressor-based cabinet coolers provide high cooling capacities in compact dimensions. A quick assembly procedure, high reliability and minimized maintenance efforts are also among the main product features.
Humidity inside the cabinet can damage sensitive electronics or optics, so reliable dehumidification of the air in a cabinet is critical. Specialized dehumidifier devices are suitable for collecting and draining condensate from the housing, using cooling strategies like the maintenance-free Peltier technology. When warm and humid air flow in the cabinet passes over the unit, the moisture condenses on its cold surface. The condensate is collected and reliably pumped to the outside by a diaphragm pump. These units are suitable for mounting partially inside or completely inside the cabinet.
Flush-mount or Drop-in?
Common mounting locations for flush-mount cabinet coolers are side, front or back as high as possible on the cabinet and with no intrusion into the enclosure. Drop in air-to-air heat exchangers extend into the panel from the side, top, front or back, but minimise the external footprint.
