Vapor Compression Components

Product Portfolio
Our vapor compression components like compressors, evaporators, condensers and controllers allow to build compact and well dimensioned cooling systems. These components are used in compact recirculating chillerscompact air coolers and dehumidifiers or OEM cooling units in medical, analytical or mobile equipment.

Precise temperature control and circuit efficiency can be achieved with our inverter-controlled mini rotary compressors and carefully designed components such as our plate evaporators that are customized to meet heat transfer and pressure drop requirements. Compact and efficient 5 mm and 7 mm finned tube condensers and evaporators as well as compact brazed plate heat exchangers – evaporators – for liquid cooling are available. For temperature control, AMS Technologies can provide OEM control boards - enabling first proof of concepts, but also suitable for a broad range of comprehensive control tasks.

Beyond our program of standard vapor compression components, AMS Technologies’ thermal management experts are happy to design and realize your customized vapor compression cooling solution, tailored exactly to your project’s requirements. Contact AMS Technologies today to find out more.

Mini rotary compressors
Our miniature rotary compressors are the result of a breakthrough in compressor technology featuring low vibration and low noise operation. They can be utilized in many thermal management applications from compact recirculating chillers, cabinet coolers, direct cooling of electronic components, and white goods to mobile refrigeration.

For smooth and easy temperature adjustment, these miniature rotary BLDC compressors with cooling capacities up to 2000 W are continuously speed-controllable via the frequency of a square wave signal. The inverter board for 24 VDC operation is included, a test function board for easy evaluation is also available as an option.

Evaporators
Our plate evaporators for direct mounting of heat sources like laser diodes, finned tube evaporators for air conditioning and brazed plate heat exchangers for liquid cooling, all in compact sizes and tailored to heat transfer, pressure drop and refrigerant requirements, give vast possibilities to design small and efficient cooling units based on vapor compression.

Condensers
Our finned tube condensers, i.e. refrigerant to air heat exchangers, are based on 5 mm or 7 mm rifled tubes in compact fin designs. These condensers’ dimensions, number of internal circuits, fin density and other parameters are optimized for different refrigerants, cooling capacities and available air flow.

Controllers
Our OEM controller board is capable of controlling the compressor, fans, pumps, eventually valves for refrigerant or water regulation and heaters for various applications. It communicates via RS232/485.

Related Products
Our broad range of liquid cooling components like liquid-cooled cold plates and fin heat exchangers are key components for reliably cooling equipment like power electronics, lasers or batteries using water or other liquids.

Air cooling components for lower heat loads available from AMS Technologies range from heat sinks to fans and filter fans. Thermoelectric components like thermoelectric (Peltier) modules or TEC temperature controllers are also part of our product portfolio.

Definition
Vapor compression is an important and widely used technique in cooling technology. Vapor compression cooling uses special refrigerants that circulate in a closed circuit and change their state of aggregation from liquid to gaseous and back again. The thermodynamic constraints of these phase changes are used for transporting heat from the heat source to the heat sink.

There are four essential components within each vapor compression system: a compressor, a condenser, an evaporator and a thermal expansion valve. The compressor pressurises the refrigerant, which is in the saturated gaseous or vapor phase, to higher pressure and also higher temperature. This refrigerant then passes through the condenser, where heat is extracted from it by cooling with ambient air or water – causing the refrigerant to change to a liquid state.

In the downstream expansion valve, the refrigerant experiences an abrupt drop in pressure, which leads to an equally abrupt temperature drop (well below ambient temperature). At this low temperature, the refrigerant now passes through the channels or tubes of the evaporator, which is located within the closed volume to be cooled, and around which the air flows. In the process, heat flow takes place again – with the air cooling down and the refrigerant absorbing the heat, its temperature rising and the agent going back into the vapor phase. The vapor is sucked in by the compressor, and the refrigeration cycle is closed.

As conventional refrigerants are highly damaging to the climate in the event of leaks, only certified specialist companies are allowed to manufacture and fill vapor compression systems’ refrigerant circuits.
