Multi Mode Patch Cables

Product Portfolio
AMS Technologies offers a big variety of standard multi mode (MM) patch cables as well as customized types, combining different fibers or cables with different connectors in different length and buffer configurations.

The standard MM patch cables are manufactured according to Telcordia GR-326-CORE with FC, SC, ST, LC, MU, SMA905 as well as MTP and MPO or other types of fiber connectors, offering low insertion loss, high return loss and high repeatability.

MM patch cables specifically designed for high-power applications are also available, featuring special high-power MM fibers, carefully prepared fiber end-faces and specially designed fiber optic connectors to ensure maximum power handling for your application. For high-power applications requiring attenuation, our fixed attenuating MM fiber patch cables can be easily installed into fiber splice enclosures.

The hermetically sealable MM patch cables with glass or metal solder use a proprietary sealing process to provide a rugged hermetic feedthrough that can be soldered into an opto-electronic package using standard tin/lead solders.

Beyond standard MM fibers, our MM patch cables can also be manufactured using your custom fiber for special projects. If you need high extinction ratio, low insertion loss or any special testing at specific wavelengths, we provide you with an end-to-end solution for your MM patch cable needs – get in touch with the AMS Technologies fiber optics experts to discuss your customized MM patch cable solution.

Related Products
In addition to multi mode (MM) patch cables, we carry also a broad portfolio of single mode (SM) and polarization maintaining (PM) patch cables, either in various standard configurations or customizable to your requirements.

If you need MM patch cable mating sleeves or bulkhead receptacles, we offer a large range of off-the-shelf components. In our portfolio you will also find a large selection of cleaning tools for patch cable connectors as well as for the inspection of your connectors.

The available fiber bundles and assemblies range from multi-fiber bundles consisting of multiple inputs and/or outputs to fiber arrays and V-Grooves. The product range is complemented by shaped fiber tips or end-capped fiber optic assemblies.

Definition
Fiber optic multi mode (MM) patch cables consist of a multi mode glass fiber of various length, which is covered with an often yarn-reinforced coating with low refractive index and possibly an additional protective outer layer (jacket or buffer) with or without strain relief elements to be used in different environments. MM patch cables are pre-terminated at one or both ends with suitable fiber connectors (e.g. SMA, ST, FC/PC type). If only one fiber end is connectorized, the assemblies are called pigtails or patch cable with one bare end.

Multi mode optical fibers are used for applications where it is important to transport as much light as possible, mostly for illumination applications. They usually have core diameters in the range of 50 µm up to 1000 µm. Depending on the wavelength of light, these diameters allow multiple modes of light to propagate through the fiber.

To specify a multi mode patch cable, it is necessary to specify the fiber type, the buffer, the mounted connectors (eventually including special connector polish) and the fiber length.
