Current Sensors

Current Sensors available from Stock
AMS Technologies’ product range of current sensors available from stock consists of super high performance, lab-grade current transformers allowing non-contact measurement of currents from Microamperes to 20 Kiloamperes, at frequencies ranging from 0.5 Hz to 500 MHz.

Offering superior performance and quality, these current transformers are available in five different case sizes with outer diameters ranging from 25.4 mm to 91.5 mm, can be terminated with BNC or SMA connectors and feature sensitivity ranges that provide environmental application flexibility. All transformers can be shipped with certificate of calibration and factory test data, ensuring optimum performance.

Should your current sensor requirements fall outside our standard product specifications, please contact the AMS Technologies current sensing experts with your application needs. We are happy to discuss the possibilities of a custom current sensing solution tailored to your application.

Application areas for our current transformers include laser and plasma research, EMC and EMI research, semiconductor gate switching, power system harmonics and transients, lightning research and simulation testing, capacitor and electrostatic discharges, corona wire discharge, partial discharge measurement or critical monitoring of current fluctuations.

Bearing in mind that every electronic engineering project has a requirement for power, AMS Technologies has assembled a comprehensive portfolio of power supplies in bench-top or 19-inch rack mountable formats to support your application and power needs. Our portfolio comprises AC/DC , DC/DC and DC/AC power supplies both for low and high voltage as well as capacitor charging units and high voltage pulse generators .

AMS Technologies’ ranges of power modules suitable for PCB or chassis mounting are the solutions of choice to convert AC voltage (AC/DC converters) or DC voltage (DC/DC converters) into the required supply voltage. Our high-voltage DC/DC converter solutions are available with output voltages ranging from 100 V up to 6 kV.

In addition to current sensors, AMS Technologies carries a broad range of further sensor solutions including , liquid level sensorsflow sensors or temperature sensors.

Definition
A current sensor converts the current flowing through a conductor into an easily measurable output voltage that is proportional to the current. Among the many different types of current sensors, each is suitable for a specific current range and environmental conditions.

Most commonly used are current sense resistors, which directly convert current linearly to a voltage. However, current sensing resistors must be inserted into the circuit to be measured and will cause a voltage drop there. In high-voltage applications, the possibly dangerously high potential of the measuring voltage with respect to ground can also be problematic.

In comparison, high-frequency current transformers (HFCTs) allow accurate, non-contact, non-destructive and potential-free measurement of currents in cables or other conductive materials. HFCTs are designed to provide measurements of either a single or a repetitive bipolar or unipolar current pulse. With the conductor of interest placed inside its solid toroid core, a high frequency current transformer will measure DC current ranges of e.g. 200 to 20,000 A or AC current ranges of e.g. 2 to 70 A.

Current Transformers come with various opening sizes (e.g. from 1/4 inch to 2 inches for our range of transformers). The output signal is an accurate voltage waveform representation of the measured current, which can be analyzed on an oscilloscope, RF power meter, spectrum analyzer or custom interface circuitry. It also works for the continuous wave. Depending on the maximum current specification, the sensor’s voltage output may range from 0.025 V/A to 5.0 V/A.
