AC/DC Converters

Product Portfolio
AMS Technologies offers various AC/DC converters in a compact module form factor. These “air insulated”, chassis-mount modules are completely serviceable, rather than epoxy block “throw-away” power supplies. They feature wide-range AC voltage inputs and high-voltage DC outputs with tight regulation. Overload, short circuit and arc protection is provided by automatic current regulation and by careful surge limiting design.

The series of 15 W high voltage AC/DC converters comprises fast-response units with tight regulation and low arc discharge currents. A broad range of models is available with output voltage ranges from 0 to 3 kVDC through 0 to 30 kVDC.

The series of 75 W high voltage AC/DC converters is available with output voltage ranges from 0 to 1 kVDC through 0 to 60 kVDC and a current regulation that is unequalled in a module of this price range.

Two series of medium-power 300 W high voltage AC/DC converter modules are available from AMS Technologies with tight regulation and extremely low arc discharge currents. A broad range of space-saving models provides output voltages ranging from 0 to 8 kVDC through 0 to 60 kVDC, high-speed dynamic voltage regulation and a ripple that is less than 0.05% of rated voltage at full load. 300 W high voltage AC/DC power supplies are also available with embedded controls, featuring an even lower ripple (0.025% of rated voltage) and noise.

A series of AC/DC converters dedicated to charging energy storing capacitors up to 2000 V is also available from AMS Technologies, designed with Power Factor Correction (PFC), low conductive noise and leakage current, and the possibility of remote output programming.

Applications
Our AC/DC converter modules are suitable for a wide range of high-voltage, high-power applications in areas like photonics, healthcare (analytical, diagnostics, detectors), industrial, semiconductor manufacturing, laboratory or research – including charging of energy storing capacitors.

AMS Technologies also offers a broad range of professional, very compact, high voltage DC/DC converters in modular form primarily for PCB mounting. Encompassing several different package forms, these modules start at 100 V output types of just over 1 cm3 in size and reach all the way to 6 kV output versions with 4 W output power.

Whether high or low voltage, or variable power stages, AMS Technologies offers a compact and cost-effective solution for your power supply challenge. Bearing in mind that every electronic engineering project has a requirement for power, we have assembled a comprehensive portfolio of power supplies in bench-top or 19-inch rack mountable formats to support your application and power needs. Our portfolio comprises AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC power supplies both for low and high voltage as well as capacitor charging units and high voltage pulse generators.

AMS Technologies’ broad portfolio of drivers, inverters and controllers comprises of laser diode driversLED drivers and controllers and TEC temperature controllers, including a variety of accessories.

Our product offering also includes a broad range of passive components like high-quality resistors and capacitors that are suitable for high voltage applications.

Definition
AC/DC converters are electronic units that convert an input AC voltage into a DC voltage of positive or negative polarity and provide this voltage at the converter’s output. Most converters can run directly off mains voltages (e.g. 230 VAC or 110 VAC), thus reducing complexity and circuit design efforts.

High voltage AC/DC converters provide high output voltages (e.g. beyond 1 kV DC). Important properties of AC/DC converters are voltage and current regulation, residual ripple or low noise, but also additional features such as power factor correction (PFC) or filtering.

AC/DC converters are available in various form factors, ranging from open PCB versions and housed modules all the way to stand-alone power supplies.
