Gooch & Housego’s 15-X, 16-X and MMIC-X series of multi mode (MM) fused bidirectional fiber optic star couplers and optical signal splitters are capable of operating over a broad wavelength range (i.e. 850 nm and 1300 nm). Multi mode couplers are typically used for short distance data transmission.

G&H couplers are manufactured using the fused biconical taper process on fully software controlled automatic fabrication stations. The process consists of placing two or more fibers adjacent to each other, then fusing and stretching them to create a central coupling region.

A fused coupler is a structure formed by two independent optical fibers. G&H uses a patented GlasSolder™ process for making a glass-to-glass bond between optical fibers and silica substrate. This technique produces a uniform solder bead that affixes the fiber to the substrate to provide exceptional longevity in mechanical and environmental stability.

Gooch & Housego (G&H) 15-xxx00-50-xxxxx multi mode and large core couplers are manufactured and tested under fully-filled launch conditions. An under-filled launch may alter coupling ratio.

G&H 16-4xxxx-xx-0xx0x couplers truly fused MM star fiber optic couplers and optical splitters (Nx3 and Nx4) can be manufactured using different fiber types such as 50/125 µm, 62.5/125 µm, 100/140 µm and OFS 100/140/ 250 µm 0.2NA graded index.

Gooch & Housego’s MMIC-X line of micro-optic based multi mode (MM) modal insensitive fiber coupler components feature stable coupling/split ratios with different types of light sources such lasers, SLDs and LEDs. Unlike the 15-X series, the MMIC-X series can hold the designed split ratio unchanged for any type of light sources used during operation and testing. MMIC-X couplers are available in different split ratios (50/50, 10/90, 5/95) and can be made with either 50/125 µm or 62.5/125 µm multi mode fibers. Other fibers and coupling ratios are available upon request.
